Industrial IoT is a matter of making the invisible visible by connecting the unconnected. A key component is wireless sensor networks which extend the reach of monitoring and control to parts of the plant floor and field that were previously inaccessible or not visible. Data can be generated from a variety of sources both new and legacy including sensors, motors, actuators, analyzers, drives, vision, video and robotics. The goal is to increase manufacturing performance and flexibility by creating frictionless communication and interaction from the plant floor to management and analytics processes. This can enable or improve predictive maintenance, third party machine monitoring, asset location, temp monitoring, HVAC optimization and many others. Ultimately, the extraction of meaningful insights from the collected data adds a competitive edge to business.
